KARGIL: The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Kargil, has concluded its 15-day Multi-Phase Summer Capacity Building Programmes 2026, training hundreds of teachers, Heads of Institutions (HOIs), Key Resource Persons (KRPs), Anganwadi Supervisors, Anganwadi Workers and Nodal Teachers through a series of specialised workshops aimed at strengthening classroom practices and educational leadership in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Conducted from July 18 to July 31, the programme comprised multiple training modules covering pedagogical leadership, foundational literacy and numeracy, early childhood education, competency-based assessment, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), digital learning and instructional content development.
The capacity-building initiative began with a one-day training programme on Pedagogical Leadership for 78 Heads of Institutions of middle schools, focusing on instructional leadership, school improvement and academic management. This was followed by a five-day subject-specific workshop on “Mathematics and EVS – The World Around Us”, in which more than 80 elementary school teachers received training in activity-based and experiential learning methodologies from resource persons associated with Ritinjali, New Delhi.
Parallel programmes included a three-day workshop on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) for 25 Zone-Level Key Resource Persons, organised in collaboration with the 17000ft Foundation, with emphasis on English and Mathematics lesson planning for Classes I and II. Simultaneously, 30 Key Resource Persons from Kargil attended a Science and Mathematics ICT Kit Workshop at Islamia School, Leh, organised jointly by DIET Leh and IISER Pune, to prepare master trainers for district-level training.
The second phase of the programme featured a three-day Balvatika Pedagogy Training Programme for 60 Foundational Stage teachers, focusing on play-based learning and early childhood education. Alongside this, Anganwadi Supervisors and Workers participated in the “Transforming Anganwadis” programme, which focused on strengthening Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) practices.
The third phase centred on competency-based learning and innovation. More than 180 Foundational Stage teachers and District and Zonal Resource Persons participated in a Capacity Building Programme on the Holistic Progress Card (HPC), organised in partnership with Nanritam NGO, which introduced participants to holistic student assessment frameworks.
During the same phase, 40 Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) Nodal Teachers underwent specialised training in coding, Arduino programming, robotics, sensors and ATL tools. The first phase of the STEM Kit Cascading Workshop, organised with IISER Pune, also trained more than 90 teachers in the classroom use of STEM learning kits.
The final phase focused on digital education. Teachers participated in a three-day workshop on Digitalisation and E-Content Development for PM e-Vidya Channels, gaining practical exposure to digital pedagogy, instructional video production and e-content creation. The second phase of the STEM Kit workshop trained an additional 60 teachers, further expanding the district’s capacity for activity-based science and mathematics education.
The inaugural and valedictory sessions of various programmes were attended by Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar; Director, School Education, UT Ladakh, Sajad Qadri; Chief Education Officer, Kargil, Sonam Wangchuk; and Principal, DIET Kargil, Khurshida Banoo.
Resource persons from partner organisations, along with faculty members of DIET Kargil, conducted the training sessions.
Participants described the programmes as practical and classroom-oriented, particularly highlighting the digital education and STEM workshops for their emphasis on hands-on learning and technology integration.
Speaking at the conclusion of the programme, Principal, DIET Kargil, Khurshida Banoo, said continuous professional development remains central to improving educational quality. She urged participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to strengthen classroom teaching and contribute to better learning outcomes across the district.
The programmes concluded with certificate distribution, participant feedback sessions and a renewed commitment by DIET Kargil to provide need-based professional development opportunities for teachers and educational functionaries in accordance with the objectives of NEP 2020 and the educational priorities of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
