VCs discuss institutional cooperation, knowledge exchange and future of higher education in Ladakh

LEH: The University of Ladakh (UoL) and the newly established Sindhu Central University (SCU) have initiated efforts to strengthen academic collaboration, with the leadership of both institutions holding discussions on institutional cooperation, knowledge exchange and the future development of higher education in Ladakh.

The deliberations took place during the visit of Prof. Rajeev Rattan Sharma, the first Vice-Chancellor of Sindhu Central University, to the University of Ladakh, where he met Vice-Chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha.

The meeting centred on expanding cooperation between the two universities, with discussions focusing on academic development, institutional capacity-building and collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing higher education in the Union Territory. Both Vice-Chancellors underscored the importance of working together to create greater opportunities for teaching, research and academic exchange as Ladakh’s higher education landscape continues to evolve.

Welcoming Prof. Sharma, Prof. Kushwaha congratulated him on his appointment as the inaugural Vice-Chancellor of Sindhu Central University and expressed the University of Ladakh’s commitment to extending academic and institutional support to the Central University, particularly during its formative years. The two Vice-Chancellors also exchanged the traditional khatak as a gesture of mutual respect and goodwill.

Prof. Kushwaha assured the visiting Vice-Chancellor that the University of Ladakh would cooperate in areas of mutual interest and provide assistance whenever required to facilitate the growth of Sindhu Central University.

The interaction reflected a shared vision of strengthening higher education through institutional partnerships, academic collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and expertise. The discussions also highlighted the growing role of the two universities in expanding educational opportunities and promoting research in Ladakh.

Registrar Priyanka Sengar, Dean, College Development Council Dr. Tsewang Motup, and Dean, Academic Affairs Dr. Yangchen Dolma, were present during the meeting.

The visit marks one of the first formal engagements between the leadership of the two universities following the establishment of Sindhu Central University and is expected to lay the groundwork for closer cooperation in advancing higher education and academic excellence in Ladakh.
