LEH: The Union Territory Administration of Ladakh has notified the appointment of seven Marriage Officers/Registrars under the Anand Marriage Act, 1909, marking a significant step towards strengthening the legal framework for the registration of Anand marriages across the region. The notification was issued by the Social and Tribal Welfare Department on July 24, 2026.

Issued under Section 6 of the Anand Marriage Act, 1909, read with Rule 3 of the Ladakh Anand Marriage Registration Rules, 2024, the order authorises designated revenue and administrative officers to exercise the powers and discharge the functions of Marriage Officers/Registrars within their respective jurisdictions.

According to the notification, the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (Leh) and Assistant Commissioner Revenue (Kargil) have been appointed as Registrars for their respective districts. In addition, the Sub-Divisional Magistrates of Khaltsi, Nubra, Changthang, Zanskar and Drass have also been designated as Marriage Officers/Registrars.

The appointments are expected to streamline the registration process for marriages, ensuring easier access to legal registration services for community residing across various parts of Ladakh. The move also reflects the administration’s efforts to strengthen public service delivery by decentralising registration facilities to the sub-divisional level.

The notification has been issued by Nidhi Malik, Administrative Secretary, Social and Tribal Welfare Department, by order of the Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
