LEH: The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Leh, under Mission Shakti, in collaboration with the Indian Army, conducted a women empowerment outreach programme in Chilam and nearby villages, focusing on women’s health, safety, dignity and access to support services.

The programme placed particular emphasis on menstrual health and hygiene, providing women and adolescent girls with information on safe menstrual practices and distributing menstrual hygiene kits containing sanitary napkins and other essential items.

A resource person from DHEW sensitised participants on issues related to women’s empowerment, safety and available support mechanisms, providing an interactive platform for women and girls to discuss health and welfare concerns.

A representative of the Child Helpline also briefed participants on services available through the helpline, including assistance and support for children requiring care, protection and immediate intervention.

The outreach was conducted with the active support and coordination of the Indian Army and saw participation from the local community.

The programme sought to strengthen awareness at the community level and improve access to information on women’s health, safety and welfare services, while encouraging healthier menstrual hygiene practices among women and adolescent girls.

The initiative also brought together government outreach mechanisms and the Army’s local support network to engage directly with women and girls in Chilam and surrounding villages.
