LEH: Yuva Bharat Ladakh on Sunday organised a cleanliness drive at the historic Namgyal Tsemo in Leh to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas, combining a tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives in the 1999 Kargil War with a campaign promoting civic responsibility and environmental conservation.

The initiative brought together volunteers who cleaned the surroundings of the heritage site in remembrance of the fallen soldiers, with organisers describing the programme as an expression of gratitude towards the armed forces and a reaffirmation of the values of service and national responsibility.

Participants observed a moment of silence in honour of the Kargil martyrs and paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces, acknowledging their role in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.

Addressing the gathering, the organisers said remembrance of the Kargil War heroes should extend beyond ceremonial observances and be reflected through responsible citizenship and meaningful community service. They said the cleanliness campaign symbolised collective responsibility towards preserving public spaces while reinforcing the principles of patriotism, environmental stewardship and voluntary service.

The organisation said the initiative sought to encourage greater public participation in activities that combine national remembrance with civic engagement, particularly among young people.

Yuva Bharat Ladakh also reiterated its commitment to organising programmes that foster patriotism, social responsibility and environmental awareness among the youth. It appealed to young people to draw inspiration from the courage, discipline and selfless service of the Kargil War heroes by participating in constructive community initiatives. The programme concluded with participants taking a collective pledge to uphold the values of discipline, service, national unity and environmental responsibility in their daily lives.
