NEW DELHI: The 43rd Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Commanders’ Conference will begin at Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi on Thursday, with senior commanders set to deliberate on emerging maritime security challenges, operational readiness, force modernisation and capability enhancement.
The three-day conference, scheduled from September 17 to 19, will bring together senior commanders from across the country for discussions on the Indian Coast Guard’s strategic, operational and administrative priorities.
Raksha Rajya Mantri Sanjay Seth will address the senior leadership of the Coast Guard on the opening day. His interaction is expected to underline the government’s focus on strengthening the maritime security force and enhancing its role in protecting India’s maritime interests and national security.
The conference will examine current and emerging maritime security challenges, operational readiness and resource deployment, besides reviewing a roadmap for capability enhancement and force modernisation.
Organisational priorities aligned with the national maritime strategy will also form part of the deliberations.
The annual commanders’ conference serves as the Coast Guard’s senior professional forum, providing an institutional platform for commanders to assess operational requirements, review ongoing initiatives and discuss priorities for the Service.
The conference will also review measures aimed at advancing indigenisation under the Make in India programme, in line with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The discussions are expected to cover the Coast Guard’s preparedness to respond to evolving maritime security requirements and the need to strengthen its capabilities and resources. The conference comes amid the Coast Guard’s wider mandate of safeguarding India’s maritime zones, responding to maritime threats and supporting the protection of the country’s sovereign maritime interests.
