LEH: The Department of Anthropology at Eliezer Joldan Memorial College (EJM College), Leh, organised an academic lecture on the scope and career opportunities in anthropology, introducing students to research, public health, development, policy and other professional pathways available beyond conventional academic careers.

The lecture, titled “Scope in Anthropology: Exploring Opportunities, Relevance and Future Pathways”, was delivered by Dr Apoorva Sharma, Research Scientist, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, on August 25.

The session focused on the diverse academic, research and professional applications of anthropology and sought to familiarise students with the relevance of the discipline in contemporary research and public-oriented work.

Students were encouraged to look beyond conventional academic pathways and explore opportunities in research institutions, public health, development organisations, policy, education, social research and other interdisciplinary fields.

The interaction also examined how anthropological training can be applied beyond the classroom, enabling students to connect disciplinary knowledge with practical research and professional requirements. The programme was organised with the objective of broadening students’ understanding of anthropology and helping them assess potential career pathways while gaining a clearer perspective on the contribution of the discipline to contemporary social and public-sector research.
