New entrants will work to strengthen party in remote areas: Khachu
ZANSKAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday welcomed a large number of people from different sections of society at a joining programme in Zanskar, with the party claiming that several members of the Muslim community had also joined its ranks as it seeks to expand its organisational presence in the newly created district.
The programme was presided over by BJP Ladakh president Tashi Gyaltsan Khachu during a visit by senior party leaders to the region. The party did not disclose the number of people who joined.
BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Kaul accompanied Khachu, along with Zanskar BJP president and former councillor Stanzin Lakpa, local leaders and party workers.
Villagers and Nambardars from Rangdum welcomed the visiting leaders and interacted with them during the programme.
According to the BJP, the new entrants came from diverse sections of society and included members of the Muslim community from Zanskar. The entrants expressed support for the party’s leadership, policies and development agenda, the party said.
Welcoming the new members, BJP leaders said the participation of people from different communities reflected what they described as growing confidence in the party’s focus on development, social harmony and equal opportunities.
The party leadership said it would continue efforts to extend development initiatives to remote areas of Ladakh while strengthening its organisational network at the grassroots level.
The new members, according to the BJP, also expressed their willingness to work at the grassroots and support its stated objective of a “developed and prosperous Zanskar”.
The latest joining programme is part of the BJP’s efforts to build its organisational network in Zanskar, a geographically remote and strategically located region of Ladakh.
Political parties have been seeking to strengthen their organisational presence in the region following the creation of Zanskar as a separate district.
