Kacho directs BSNL to speed up connectivity upgrade

DRASS: Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho, on Friday urged local youth to take up carpentry and other traditional trades while encouraging artisans to adopt modern technology, maintain clean workplaces and follow environmentally responsible waste disposal practices.

Interacting with carpenters, woodwork business operators and other stakeholders, the Deputy Commissioner said traditional skills remain an important source of livelihood and self-employment. He advised artisans to complement their craftsmanship with digital tools, computer-based design techniques and innovative ideas to improve product quality and expand business opportunities.

The meeting was attended by Naib Tehsildar (HQ) Mohammad Ibrahim, Lambardar Ranbirpora Sadiq Ali, and representatives of local carpentry businesses.

Kacho emphasised that maintaining cleanliness and proper waste management should be an integral part of every workplace. He appealed to carpenters not to dispose of wood waste and other debris into rivers, streams or drainage channels, stressing the need to protect the local environment.

Participants appreciated the administration’s support and assured the Deputy Commissioner that they would continue improving their skills, adopt better work practices and contribute towards a cleaner Drass.

Later, officials of BSNL-Kargil met the Deputy Commissioner to discuss land allotment issues and review the status of ongoing telecom projects. Kacho directed the officials to expedite the strengthening of mobile and internet connectivity, noting that residents in several parts of Drass continue to face difficulties in receiving one-time passwords (OTPs) required for obtaining ration supplies and LPG cylinders.

In a separate interaction held a day earlier, the Deputy Commissioner met operators of restaurants and small eateries to discuss measures for maintaining cleanliness in the market area. The meeting, attended by Tehsildar (HQ) Abdul Aziz and Market Association President Mehrajuddin, decided to form groups of shopkeepers responsible for waste management within designated areas. Officials also reiterated the need to curb the use of single-use plastic and prevent littering across the market.
