Calls for citizen-centric policing, scientific investigations and highest standards of integrity and accountability

KARGIL: Director General of Police (DGP), Union Territory of Ladakh, Anand Jain, IPS, on Saturday inaugurated a newly constructed 40-person Police Barracks for the staff of Police Station Kargil, reinforcing the police department’s commitment to improving personnel welfare while strengthening operational preparedness and service delivery.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kargil Nitin Yadav, IPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Anayatullah, and other senior police officers.

The newly built barracks have been developed to provide improved residential facilities for police personnel posted at Police Station Kargil. The upgraded accommodation is expected to enhance the welfare, morale and operational efficiency of the force by ensuring better living conditions for officers and staff serving in the district.

Following the inauguration, the DGP undertook a comprehensive inspection of Police Station Kargil, reviewing its overall functioning and assessing various aspects of policing and administration.

During the visit, Jain examined the station records and inspected the implementation of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) along with the functioning of the Forensic Unit and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS). He emphasised the importance of maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, leveraging technology for efficient policing and strengthening scientific methods of investigation to improve the quality and credibility of criminal investigations.

Highlighting the growing role of technology in modern law enforcement, the DGP underscored the need for effective utilisation of digital policing tools and forensic capabilities to ensure faster, transparent and evidence-based investigations.

Interacting with officers and police personnel, Jain called upon all ranks to uphold the highest standards of professionalism while remaining sensitive and responsive to the needs of the public. He stressed that policing must remain prompt, professional and citizen-centric, with a strong focus on public trust and service.

The DGP directed officers to ensure timely redressal of public grievances, deliver efficient and people-friendly policing, and maintain the highest levels of integrity, accountability and transparency in the discharge of their duties.

He also encouraged police personnel to continue adopting best practices in policing, improve coordination within the force and utilise modern investigative technologies to enhance public safety and strengthen the criminal justice system.
