Students screened for Anaemia, Hepatitis during Health Camp

LEH: A health camp and awareness programme on the harmful effects of drug and substance addiction was held at Government Higher Secondary School, Sakti, under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, with health officials urging students and teachers to recognise the risks of substance use and seek timely support.

Organised by AAM-PHC Sakti, the programme combined a drug-awareness session with preventive health screening for students and staff, bringing health education and basic screening services within the school setting.

Dr Padma Angmo, Consultant Psychiatrist, SNM Hospital, Leh, addressed the gathering as the guest speaker and spoke about the physical, psychological and social consequences of drug addiction. She also stressed the importance of early intervention and timely access to professional help for people affected by substance use.

The health component included anaemia screening under the Anaemia Mukt Bharat Programme of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, besides Hepatitis screening.

The Principal of Government Higher Secondary School, Sakti, appreciated the initiative and underlined the role of schools, teachers and parents in guiding young people towards healthy and responsible choices.

Medical Officer, AAM-PHC Sakti, Dr Jigmet Wangchuk, thanked the school principal, teachers and students for their participation and cooperation. He also stressed the need for sustained coordination between healthcare and educational institutions to strengthen awareness, early screening and preventive healthcare.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment towards a drug-free society and greater access to health information and services for young people.
