LEH: The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Leh, on Saturday concluded a five-day professional development programme for elementary school teachers, aimed at strengthening classroom instruction in Environmental Science (EVS) and Mathematics through activity-based and learner-centric teaching methodologies aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Organised in collaboration with knowledge partners Ritanjali and Pallavan Learning Systems, the training, titled “EVS & Mathematics Training for Elementary Teachers (Classes III-V),” was held from July 20 to 25 at the New Block of DIET Leh. The programme focused on enhancing teachers’ pedagogical competencies and improving foundational learning outcomes in government schools across Ladakh.

The training featured intensive workshops, interactive academic sessions and collaborative exercises that introduced participants to practical classroom strategies and subject-specific instructional techniques designed to make teaching more engaging and effective.

Addressing the valedictory function, Sonam Dorjay Namgail, Principal, DIET Leh, said the methodologies introduced during the programme would enable teachers to adopt innovative classroom practices, thereby contributing to the overall improvement of school education in Ladakh. He appreciated the resource persons and participating teachers for their commitment throughout the training.

The academic sessions were conducted by Karishma Baijal, Programme Coordinator; Mathematics experts Anup Mishra and Mudit Verma; Environmental Science experts Pallavi Sharma and Kreeti Goswami; and resource support member Daksh Yadav. The curriculum emphasised experiential learning and practical teaching approaches consistent with NEP 2020.

The programme concluded with a feedback session, during which teachers shared their experiences and expressed confidence in applying the newly acquired pedagogical techniques in their classrooms. Certificates of participation were distributed to all attendees, marking the successful completion of the training programme.
