KARGIL: The first batch of 51 Special Police Officers (SPOs) completed a two-week basic training course at the District Police Lines, Kargil, on Wednesday, enhancing the operational preparedness and manpower capacity of the district police force.
Organised by District Police Kargil, the training programme was designed to equip newly inducted SPOs with the essential skills required for policing duties through a combination of physical training, legal instruction and practical operational exercises.
The concluding day featured a live firing exercise using authorised weapons and a riot control mock drill, during which trainees were placed in simulated law and order situations to assess their ability to operate riot control equipment and respond effectively to crowd management scenarios. The exercise also included the use of munitions and various tactical formations employed during mob control operations.
Throughout the programme, the trainees received instruction on the legal framework governing policing from experienced police and prosecuting officers. The curriculum also incorporated sessions on information technology applications in modern policing, including the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), cybercrime investigations and digital investigation techniques, reflecting the increasing role of technology in law enforcement.
The training module placed particular emphasis on basic drill, physical endurance and discipline to prepare the newly recruited personnel for the demands of operational policing. As Special Police Officers form an important component of the district police establishment, the programme is expected to strengthen the overall operational capability of District Police Kargil.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Kargil, appreciated the efforts of the drill instructors, police officers from various police stations and all personnel who contributed to the successful conduct of the training programme.
