LEH: Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Mohd Haneefa Jan, has received a formal invitation from the International Relations Department of the Office of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran to attend the state funeral ceremonies of Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Tehran.
According to the invitation letter issued by Mohsen Qummi, Director of the International Relations Department of the Office of the Supreme Leader, the Iranian authorities informed the Ladakh MP that the country’s Supreme Leader attained martyrdom (“Shahadat”) on February 28, 2026, and invited him to participate in the official mourning ceremonies as a distinguished guest representing India.
The letter states that the invitation has been extended in recognition of the “profound historical and strategic ties” between India and Iran, expressing hope that Mohd Haneefa Jan’s presence would symbolize the longstanding friendship and mutual respect shared by the two ancient civilizations.
The programme outlined in the invitation includes a farewell ceremony at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla Complex in Tehran on July 3, a commemorative session at the Summit Conference Hall on July 4, and the funeral procession of the late Supreme Leader on July 6, 2026.
Describing the occasion as one of national mourning, the Iranian office said the ceremonies would be conducted in accordance with the protocols of the Islamic Republic and extended its highest consideration to the Ladakh parliamentarian.
The invitation assumes significance as Mohd Haneefa Jan is among the Indian public representatives invited to attend the high-profile state event in Tehran, reflecting the diplomatic and people-to-people engagement between India and Iran.
