LEH: BJP Ladakh State President Tashi Gyaltsan Khachu and former Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, sought intervention from BJP National President Nitin Nabin for the establishment of a cricket stadium and direct affiliation of Ladakh with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during a meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The two leaders, who called on Nabin at his office, raised the sports-related demands while discussing a range of development and regional issues concerning the Union Territory. They also discussed measures to strengthen the organisational structure of BJP Ladakh.

The demand for a dedicated cricket stadium and direct BCCI affiliation emerged as a major focus of the meeting, with the leaders seeking Nabin’s intervention on the two issues.

During the interaction, Khachu and Gyalson congratulated Nabin on the successful formation of his national team. The Ladakh leaders also expressed gratitude to the BJP-led Central Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for what they described as the continued pace of development in the Union Territory.

They referred to the recent announcement of a four per cent sports quota in Ladakh and the approval for establishment of a High Court Circuit Bench for the Union Territory, describing the latter as fulfilment of a long-standing demand.

The leaders also discussed other issues concerning Ladakh and sought continued attention to the region’s development requirements.

The meeting further included discussions on strengthening the BJP’s organisational structure in Ladakh and consolidating its organisational network across the Union Territory.

Later, the Ladakh BJP delegation met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi and expressed gratitude for the approval of infrastructure projects worth over Rs 1,000 crore for Ladakh, including the Leh Bypass Road.

During the meeting, the delegation sought Gadkari’s continued support for additional road infrastructure proposals submitted under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), while discussing the requirements of the Union Territory’s road network.

Khachu and Gyalson thanked the Union Minister for approving the projects and conveyed their appreciation for the Ministry’s support to Ladakh’s infrastructure requirements.

The leaders also discussed several other projects submitted under the CRIF and sought continued consideration and support for the proposals.

The road-related discussions come as Ladakh continues to seek improvements in connectivity and road infrastructure across the Union Territory. The approved projects, including the Leh Bypass Road, are expected to expand the region’s road infrastructure portfolio.

Later, Khachu and Gyalson met Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra at his office and discussed road infrastructure-related matters, according to the statement issued by Adv Tashi Gyalson.

The delegation’s meetings with the Union ministers centred on the infrastructure projects already approved for Ladakh as well as additional proposals submitted under the central road infrastructure funding framework.
