KARGIL: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kargil, under the aegis of the Ladakh Legal Services Authority, on Sunday observed International Yoga Day at the District Court Complex, with judicial officers, legal professionals and para legal volunteers participating in a programme dedicated to promoting health, wellness and mindfulness.
Held under the global theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the event was chaired by Chairman DLSA and Principal District and Sessions Judge Kargil, Sheikh Gowher Hussain, in the presence of Chief Judicial Magistrate Tsewang Phuntsog.
The programme brought together DLSA panel lawyers, Legal Aid Defence Counsel staff, court officials, Para Legal Volunteers and yoga instructors, who collectively participated in a series of yoga postures, breathing exercises and meditation sessions aimed at enhancing physical fitness and mental well-being.
Yoga instructors Fazil Mukhtar and Altaf Baig guided participants through various practices, including Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Bhujangasana, Trikonasana, Vajrasana, Padmasana, Surya Namaskar, Anulom Vilom, Bhramari Pranayama and Shavasana. The exercises focused on improving flexibility, strength, concentration and stress management.
Speakers highlighted yoga’s role in fostering physical health, emotional balance and mental resilience, while emphasising its relevance in addressing the challenges of modern lifestyles. The programme also sought to create greater awareness about the benefits of regular yoga practice among young people and the wider community.
Addressing participants, the instructors described yoga as a holistic discipline that promotes harmony between the individual, society and nature. They noted that beyond physical exercise, yoga contributes to relaxation, improved immunity and overall well-being.
The event concluded with a call for wider adoption of yoga as a daily practice and reaffirmed the judiciary’s participation in efforts to promote preventive healthcare, wellness and healthy ageing across the region.
