LEH: In a major crackdown on illegal gambling, District Police Leh on Sunday busted a gambling racket operating at Choglamsar Spang near Flower Field Park, apprehending 15 persons and seizing nearly Rs two lakh in cash along with gambling paraphernalia.
According to a police press release, the operation was carried out jointly by Police Station Leh and Police Post Choglamsar following specific inputs about illegal gambling activities in the area.
During the raid, police caught 15 individuals allegedly engaged in gambling. A total of Rs 1,98,370 in cash was recovered and seized along with several packs of playing cards, Mahjong tiles (locally known as “Pag”), and three tables being used for the gambling activities.
Following the raid, FIR No. 155/2026 has been registered at Police Station Leh under the relevant provisions of the Gambling Act, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the illegal operation.
District Police Leh reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against all forms of unlawful activities and appealed to the public to cooperate by reporting any illegal activity to the nearest police establishment, enabling timely legal action.
