Ladakh leaders flag Sankoo’s district-status demand and Panchayat rationalisation

LEH: BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B L Santosh on Wednesday held detailed discussions with the party’s Ladakh leadership on strengthening its grassroots organisation, expanding outreach to remote areas and addressing region-specific issues ahead of upcoming elections.

Santosh met BJP Ladakh State office-bearers and district presidents in the presence of State President Tashi Gyaltsan Khachu, Ladakh in-charge Rajkumar Bhatia, former LAHDC Leh CEC and former MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, and former CEC Tashi Gyalson.

The meeting focused on expanding the party’s organisational network and ensuring that its programmes and development agenda reach people in remote and difficult-to-access parts of Ladakh.

Party leaders stressed the need for sustained grassroots outreach and closer coordination between the state, district and local-level units. They also discussed ways to strengthen the organisation and communicate government schemes and development initiatives to people across the Union Territory.

Among the regional issues discussed was the demand for district status for Sankoo in Kargil. The meeting also took up the need for rationalisation of certain Panchayats in border areas, with the party linking the issues to administrative reach and delivery of public services in remote communities.

The discussions also assumed importance in view of the upcoming elections, with the BJP leadership reviewing its organisational preparedness and outreach strategy across Ladakh.

The party said greater emphasis would be placed on reaching the “last person in the queue”, particularly in areas where difficult terrain and limited accessibility pose challenges to public outreach.

The meeting brought together senior party functionaries from across Ladakh to review organisational priorities, regional concerns and the party’s campaign and outreach plans.

Santosh’s visit comes amid renewed political activity in Ladakh as parties prepare their organisational structures for the elections. The Ladakh Administration has also been undertaking administrative and grassroots planning exercises across Kargil, including public participation programmes in blocks such as Sankoo.

Earlier, Santosh was received in Leh by Gyaltsan Khachu, Tashi Gyalson, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and other senior BJP leaders, office-bearers and party workers. His visit was also acknowledged by Santosh on social media after his arrival in Leh.
