NUBRA: The Nubra administration on Monday reviewed disaster management and mitigation preparedness ahead of the monsoon season, with Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nubra, Jigmet Raftan, directing all departments to maintain operational readiness to respond swiftly to emergencies, particularly flash floods and rising water levels.
Chairing a review meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, the SDM instructed departments to ensure the availability of adequate manpower, machinery and essential resources for immediate deployment in the event of any weather-related emergency.
Highlighting the vulnerability of the region during the monsoon, Raftan emphasised the need for close inter-departmental coordination and a proactive approach to disaster response. He directed officials to strengthen preparedness measures to deal with flash floods, rising water levels in rivers and streams, and potential road blockages that could disrupt connectivity.
The SDM also called for timely restoration of roads and public infrastructure in the event of damage, while stressing that public safety and uninterrupted access to essential services should remain the foremost priority. He asked departments to put in place preventive measures to minimise inconvenience to both residents and tourists visiting the Nubra Valley during the peak travel season.
The meeting was attended by the Tehsildar, Sumoor; Officers Commanding of 54 RCC, 104 RCC and 111 RCC GREF; the Naib Tehsildar, Panamik; Block Development Officers of Diskit, Panamik and Turtuk; and Assistant Executive Engineers from the Power Development Department, Public Works Department, Public Health Engineering Department, and Irrigation and Flood Control Department.
