LEH: A two-day capacity-building programme for teachers on the implementation of skill education for Classes VI to X began at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Leh, on Tuesday, with officials stressing the need to integrate practical skills with academic learning for the holistic development of students.

The programme is being organised for principals of government and private schools and teachers involved in implementing Kaushal Bodh and Kaushal Vikas, the textbooks being used for skill education at the middle and secondary school levels.

The opening ceremony was attended by Dr Biswajit Saha, Director (Skill Education), CBSE, and Tsering Paldan, Director of School Education, UT of Ladakh.

Addressing the participants, both directors emphasised that skill education should complement academic subjects and play an important role in preparing students for practical challenges and future career opportunities.

They stressed the need to equip students with practical skills and competencies that can help them respond to the demands of contemporary society while broadening their future career options.

The capacity-building programme, being held on September 29 and 30, will focus on strengthening teachers’ understanding of skill education and improving the effective implementation of the curriculum through the Kaushal Bodh and Kaushal Vikas textbooks.

The training is intended to provide school heads and teachers with greater clarity on the implementation of skill-based learning and its integration into classroom teaching.

During his visit to Leh, Dr Saha also visited NIELIT Leh, where a bootcamp on Artificial Intelligence, Digital Citizenship and Educational Technology is currently being conducted.

He interacted with the participating students and encouraged them to develop relevant skills and make effective use of emerging technologies as part of their learning and preparation for future careers. The two-day programme will conclude on September 30.
