KARGIL: A two-day health camp focusing on preventive healthcare, tuberculosis screening and mental well-being for police and security personnel commenced at the District Police Lines (DPL), Kargil, on Tuesday under a joint initiative of the Ladakh Police and the Health Department, Kargil.

The camp will cover all Ladakh Police personnel posted in Kargil, besides Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel stationed at the District Police Lines, with comprehensive medical examinations aimed at promoting early detection of illnesses and improving overall health among frontline security personnel.

A medical team led by District Tuberculosis Officer Dr. Fatima Nissa is conducting the screenings with specialists from the departments of General Medicine, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Dentistry and Psychiatry. The initiative places particular emphasis on tuberculosis screening under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP).

Alongside routine medical examinations, the camp featured a mental health awareness session, during which a psychiatrist sensitised police personnel on psychological well-being, stress management and the importance of seeking timely professional assistance to address mental health concerns associated with demanding operational duties.

Officials said the initiative is intended to strengthen preventive healthcare practices among police and security personnel by facilitating early diagnosis and timely medical intervention while promoting both physical fitness and mental resilience.

The two-day programme is expected to enhance the overall health and well-being of police and CRPF personnel serving in Kargil, reinforcing the administration’s focus on safeguarding the health of frontline security forces through regular medical screening and awareness initiatives.
