KARGIL: Around 250 student volunteers participated in a programme organised by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) Kargil at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Khumbuthang, on Monday, joining the nationwide “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan” through a live virtual interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a collective pledge against substance abuse.
The programme formed part of the national launch of a 100-week Jan Bhagidari movement against substance abuse, being led by MY Bharat under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. During the virtual interaction, the Prime Minister called upon young people to play an active role in building a drug-free India and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 by becoming agents of social transformation.
As part of the nationwide campaign, participants at JNV Khumbuthang joined youth across more than 25,000 locations in taking the Nasha Mukti Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to remain free from drugs and spread awareness about the harmful consequences of substance abuse.
The campaign is being implemented with the participation of spiritual organisations, MY Bharat volunteers, National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, youth clubs, educational institutions, non-governmental organisations, youth wings of industry associations and other stakeholders to strengthen community participation in the anti-drug movement.
Addressing the gathering, Raj Kumar, Principal of JNV Khumbuthang and the chief guest, appreciated MY Bharat Kargil for organising the programme and encouraged students to adopt healthy lifestyles, maintain discipline and contribute positively to society.
District Youth Officer Jitendra Gulab Sahare urged students to actively participate in the Nasha Mukti Abhiyan and serve as ambassadors of the campaign within their schools, families and communities to promote awareness against substance abuse.
Officials informed participants that the campaign would continue over the next 100 weeks through a series of community-based activities, including sports events, awareness rallies, padyatras, cultural programmes, meditation sessions, discussions, street plays, competitions and volunteer-led outreach initiatives aimed at sustaining public participation in the anti-drug movement.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and a collective commitment by participants to support the national mission of a drug-free India while contributing towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
