NYOMA: The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was launched in Nyoma on Monday with an awareness rally by school students aimed at highlighting the dangers of drug abuse and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
Deputy Commissioner, Changthang, Nitish Rajora, IAS, flagged off the campaign, which saw students of Government Middle School Nyoma and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Nyoma march through the village carrying the message of a drug-free society.
The students raised awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and urged the community to adopt healthier lifestyles. The campaign sought to take the anti-drug message beyond schools and encourage collective action by families, institutions and the wider community.
The initiative comes amid continued efforts in Changthang to strengthen awareness among young people and communities about substance abuse. Earlier this year, the District De-Addiction Centre, Leh, conducted a week-long awareness campaign across schools and communities in the region, including Nyoma, focusing on prevention, healthy lifestyles and the role of families in addressing substance abuse. The latest campaign in Nyoma placed students at the forefront of the awareness effort, using a public rally to take the message directly to residents.
The administration said such community-based initiatives are intended to encourage greater public participation in efforts to build a drug-free society.
